Our project was to build a School building design and to get students outside more often and to have a more open and relaxed environment with places to study or do homework such as extra classrooms and a library.
I am going to be honest, In this project, I didn't really understand any of it I really just did the work when I was told too. I tried to understand it at the start but I am not someone who understands construction that well. However, I will admit, I didn't know that you could actually build a house out of straw. I Also didn't know that much about insulation at all. I thought it was just part of the structure and held the house together. I learned that insulation keeps houses/ buildings warmer too. I also thought that windows didn't really have anything to do with heat depending on how thick or thin they are.
What stood out, what was difficult, what would you have changed about the way you worked in your group? How have you grown as a collaborator? Speak to the participatory decision-making core values. Use evidence!
What was difficult in our group was the communication. We didn't communicate very often and we never really made things clear when we did. We would just brush peoples questions and needs off our shoulders and get back to doing our own thing. Their was also a lot of wondering around in our group. I feel like I would have changed both the communication and the wondering next time because it made us all have a huge lack of interest in the project. I have grown as a collaborator by actually trying to do the work this time instead of bailing out on my group and letting them down. The evidence for this are the pictures of work above.
I feel that It is a very strong, and good idea to get ideas from our students. Reasons being that Students are very creative. Not only are they creative about design but they can show how we can better our schools and change things for the better like out school parking lot. I feel that its important because I feel like not all schools have the advantage to let students be as creative as they did in this project and to get opinions on what the students want for their future school would help because not all of us actually get a chance to help with change.
